The magnificent Mariners.
There’s no other way to describe it. What an absolutely perfect weekend for these Seattle Mariners, who went into Friday tied with the Houston Astros atop the AL West standings.
But after Sunday Night Baseball, a terrific night for the M’s, the Mariners are three games up. They swept the Astros.
Their magic number is down to three. A postseason berth is right there to be grasped.
It was a brilliant Sunday night, featured nationally on ESPN.
J.P. Crawford hit a grand slam.
Cal Raleigh hit his 58th homer.
Logan Gilbert threw six great innings, allowing just one run.
It all added up to the Mariners proving who the AL West’s best team is and showing their bonafides to potentially chase a World Series.
For Raleigh, it expanded all his records — catcher home runs, switch-hitter home runs, Mariners home runs.
And for Seattle, it was an excuse to start preparing for a postseason party.
What a time to be a Mariners fan.
