The Seattle Mariners could use a bat or two, and a couple of their most popular trade deadline rumors involve Arizona Diamondbacks sluggers Eugenio Suarez and Josh Naylor.
But in ESPN’s latest trade fits listing, a different name has popped up from the National League.
The Mariners were one of five teams said to make sense for Marcell Ozuna, the Atlanta Braves’ DH.
“Ozuna is a stone-cold DH, playing two games in the field in 2023 as his last regular-season experience defensively,” writes ESPN. “Ozuna is also in a contract year, but his power numbers are down a notch from his standout .302 average and 39-homer performance last season. His on-base percentage remains among the highest of potential trade candidates. If anyone is moving from Atlanta, he’s the likeliest candidate, with free agency beckoning.”

On his expiring contract, Ozuna certainly seems like a guy who will move before the deadline.
He probably wouldn’t play every day in Seattle, given that Cal Raleigh sometimes gets DH reps. But when Raleigh catches, Ozuna feels like an upgrade on Mitch Garver at DH.
Especially if the Mariners don’t land one of the Arizona corner infielders, Ozuna could be a good consolation prize.
