Mariners’ Julio Rodriguez joins Ichiro Suzuki in amazing Seattle history with latest record

Keeping baseball history company with Ichiro Suzuki is a good place to be.

That’s especially true heading into the weekend when the Seattle Mariners legend will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

And on Thursday night, that’s where Julio Rodriguez found himself.

The history was made when Rodriguez stole third base in the first inning. It was his 20th steal of the season.

Rodriguez has now stolen 20 bases in each of his first four MLB season. The only other player in Seattle franchise history to do that was Ichiro.

If we’re being honest, Rodriguez still has a lot of work to do to be anywhere near Suzuki as a base stealer.

That’s because Ichiro would steal 20 or more bases in his first 13 MLB seasons, dating past his Seattle tenure to the beginning of his time with the Yankees.

But it’s still a special place for Julio to be, and he could certainly do it again next season and the one after that if he can stay healthy.
