Mariners’ Josh Naylor breaks silence after trade from Diamondbacks

Josh Naylor left Pittsburgh at 4 a.m. on Friday.

By Friday night, he was in the Seattle Mariners’ lineup batting cleanup.

The new trade deadline acquisition is in town and ready to help Seattle chase down a playoff spot.

He spoke with reporters before Friday’s game, too.

“It’s baseball,” Naylor said. “It’s the business side of it.”

Naylor was involved in trade talks for the past few weeks. He was already moved in the offseason from the Guardians to the Diamondbacks in a trade, so this isn’t new to him.

“My phone is blowing up with people reaching out and saying good luck,” Naylor said.

He’s ready to go.

“I’m excited to be here, excited to play hard, excited to win,” Naylor said. “I love winning.”

The Mariners do, too, and they’re hoping they and Naylor can do plenty of it together.
