Mariners GM Justin Hollander discusses team’s focus going into the offseason

The Seattle Mariners are coming off a rather impressive season. They made the postseason for the first time since the 2022 season and made it all the way to the ALCS.

Unfortunately, they would be bested by the Toronto Blue Jays in an exciting seven-game series. One of their weaknesses during the series came from the pitching department.

With the late-season injury to Bryan Woo, Seattle needed some unproven arms to step up. This should be a wake-up call for the club as they head into the offseason.

Mariners GM Justin Hollander discusses team’s focus going into the winter

The Mariners go into the offseason with the risk of losing Josh Naylor, Eugenio Suarez, and Jorge Polanco. Both Naylor and Suarez will be free agents when the season concludes, and Polanco has a $6 million option for 2026.

While the front office will look to keep all three, it is rather unlikely. They also have to turn their attention to grabbing some arms, which GM Justin Hollander believes you cannot have enough of, via Mynorthwest’s Shannon Drayer.

“I’m always going to lean toward you can never have enough pitching. We’ve been really, really blessed with tremendous talent and tremendous health until this year. And this year, we had some of the health bug bite us, and we got exposed for part of the season. Just where we really felt like we were a little naked in terms of the next guy up over and over and over again.”

Pitching depth is so important, especially as you enter the postseason. While the club has some glaring holes, pitching will be on the team’s mind as we head into the winter months.
