Marcus Smart reveals details behind altercation with Celtics fan

Marcus Smart used to be one of the most beloved players on the Boston Celtics. Last night, the Washington Wizards guard went into TD Garden as the bad guy. That became even more true after an altercation with a Celtics fan.

The Wizards, as has been tradition all year, got absolutely pummeled. Boston took it to them, winning a commanding 124-90 ball game to improve to 58-20 in the 2024-25 NBA season.

During the game, Smart was ejected after getting into a heated verbal match with someone from the crowd. The Wizards guard explained after the matchup what led to the viral moment.

“[He] just crossed a line, and we all know I don’t do line crossing, and that was it,” Smart told the media. “We move on. [It’s] unfortunate. You never want to see that, especially for a guy who’s coming back and who’s given this city everything he has.”

Smart spent nine seasons with the Celtics in his 11-year career. Boston is where the former Defensive Player of the Year played his best basketball. The defensive-minded guard averaged 10.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 1.6 steals per game during his time with the Celtics. Smart wound up being included in the three-team deal that brought Kristaps Porzingis to Boston.

For a player that was so well-liked during his time with the Celtics, it feels odd to see him involved in this type of scenario. However, as the classic quote from The Dark Knight goes, ‘you either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become a villain.’
