Marcus Morris Sr arrest: Former NBA star charged with fraud in Florida

Marcus Morris Sr. has been arrested in Florida on a fraud charge. He was booked on Sunday, July 27 in Broward County, Florida.

Morris was drafted with the 14th pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. He bounced around the NBA between the Rockets, Suns, Pistons, Celtics, Knicks, Clippers, 76ers and Cavaliers, but still amassed a 14-year career, last playing with Cleveland in 2024.

Marcus has an identical twin brother named Markieff, who was selected the pick before Marcus in the 2011 Draft. Markieff spent the 2025 season with the Lakers, but is currently a free agent.

Morris already posted on his official X account, saying that the charge isn’t nearly as serious as the arrest makes it sound.

“The wording is crazy. Damn for that amount of money they’ll embarrass you in the airport with your family. They got y’all really thinking bro did some fraud shit. They could have came to the crib for all that. When y’all hear the real story on this shit man. All I can say is Lesson learned. Bro will tell y’all tomorrow. This weird shit gave me a headache. Can’t stop nothin!”

This isn’t the first time that Morris has been faced with legal issues. In 2012, he entered a diversion program stemming from a battery charge. In 2015, he was found not guilty of assault with the charges stemming from a non-NBA basketball brawl that included Markieff.
