Marc-Andre ter Stegen has not played for Barcelona this season due to a back injury, but could soon get a taste of Premier League football.
He missed much of last season due to injury, which meant that Barca had to convince former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny to come out of retirement for them.
Before his injury, Ter Stegen was regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, and he has earned 44 caps for Germany.
The keeper began his career with Borussia Monchengladbach before heading to Barcelona in 2014. He has since won the Champions League and La Liga six times with the Spanish side.
Ter Stegen is yet to play for Germany at a World Cup, so if he is to have any chance of competing at the tournament in North America next year, then he will need game time.
The transfer insider Dean Jones told TEAMtalk, “It would not surprise me if Chelsea looked into getting Ter Stegen on loan for the second half of the season.”

Chelsea still needs a world-class goalkeeper
Despite his star performances in Chelsea’s victorious Club World Cup campaign over the summer, Robert Sanchez is still considered the weak link in Chelsea’s lineup.
His reputation has not been helped by a sending off against Manchester United earlier in the season.
Sanchez was also benched for the Blues’ 5-1 victory over Ajax in the Champions League this week.
Filip Jorgensen played against the Dutch side, but he is relatively inexperienced for a goalkeeper, as he is just 23.
Jorgensen would benefit from having a player such as Ter Stegen at the club to learn from. However, it is a gamble signing the injury-prone German goalkeeper.
Chelsea have also been linked with AC Milan’s Mike Maignan, but he will likely not be available to sign until the summer when his contract expires.
