
Mitch Marner is going to need a new contract at some point, from the Maple Leafs or someone else.
On Saturday night, he showed just how valuable he really is.
The highlight, of course, was Marner’s game-winning goal. He snapped a shot under the glove in overtime to defeat the Montreal Canadiens.

Marner also reached the 100-point mark in the process, but that wasn’t the most heroic thing he did Saturday night.

He stuck himself in front of shots and embraced the additional assignment to go with his normal goal-scoring ability.
No, whoever pays Marner a lot of money this offseason isn’t going to be bringing him in to play in defense.
But it shows the mindset of the player, one who is willing to put himself on the line to give his team a best chance to win.
And on Saturday night for the Maple Leafs, Marner displayed just how much of a winning influence he can have, at both ends of the ice.
