The Toronto Maple Leafs understand they have a lot to worry about when it comes to Mitch Marner. If the team doesn’t want to lose him, it’ll take a generational type of offer to keep him in town.
Marner, clearly the top player available on the free agency market, could be looking at a record-setting type of contract, and rightfully so.
After a 102-point season, he continued to prove why he’s highly regarded in this league. Unfortunately for the Maple Leafs and other teams around the league, there’s a significant price tag that comes with it, and the Maple Leafs will be affected by that.
According to reports, it’s possible that the Maple Leafs could lose him, with many believing that will be the case.
According to NHL Rumour Report, Elliotte Friedman recently said on the “32 Thoughts Podcast” that Marner’s free agency got a significant update from the Vegas Golden Knights, with him stating that many teams around the league are wondering if the Golden Knights are the team to beat in negotiations.

Vegas has continuously proven that whenever a top player is on the market, it’ll do whatever it takes to ensure it has a chance to land said player.
Given Marner’s current free agency situation and the fact that the Golden Knights haven’t found the success they’ve been looking for in recent years, it’s possible that they’ll attempt to make a blockbuster deal to regain their position at the top of the NHL world once again.
