Maple Leafs get brutal $14 million Bruins update on Mitch Marner

The NHL playoffs are right around the corner, and the Toronto Maple Leafs will have their full attention on that.

However, there’s an elephant in the room regarding the future of Mitch Marner, who many believe will depart from Toronto in free agency.

Marner, who has posted 70 assists, 24 goals, and 94 points, would be a tough player to lose.

Perhaps a deep playoff run could put the Maple Leafs in a position to sign the 27-year-old star, but some don’t expect that to be the case.

According to Zero Sekhon of NHL Trade Rumors, the Boston Bruins could be the team he lands with. Sekhon reported that the Bruins are very interested and could give him a $14 million AAV deal.

“The Bruins aren’t just interested, they’re all-in,” Sekhon wrote. “We’re talking a potential $14M AAV megadeal to steal Marner from Toronto.

“This isn’t just about adding talent; it’s about sending a thunderous message: The Bruins are back, and they’re coming for the Cup. And if Marner slips away? Plan B is just as explosive: Brock Boeser, Nikolaj Ehlers, or even a reunion with Brad Marchand (if the cap gods allow). One way or another, Boston is hunting for a game-changer.”

The Bruins have had a rough season, sitting in last place in the Atlantic Division with 71 points. For a Boston organization that’s built on winning, this year has been inexcusable.

If the plan is to get fans back in the groove, Marner would help the front office and ownership do just that.
