Maple Leafs’ fans are counting down the days until Connor McDavid can sign with them

The countdown has begun.

Connor McDavid is entering the last season of his contract with the Edmonton Oilers. And until he signs an extension, if he signs an extension, other fanbases will be keeping an eye on him.

No fanbase wants McDavid more than the supporters of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Check this viral post on X out:

McDavid is the best player on the planet, and a Canadian.

He’s spent his entire NHL career in Edmonton. The last time he signed a contract, it was the richest in NHL history.

He’s expected to get the same treatment again this time.

There are multiple questions hovering over McDavid, not just his final destination.

Will he go for the full eight years, or something more like four?

Will he break the record slightly at $16 million per year, or will he blow it out of the water at $17-20 million per year?

And yeah, will he stay in Edmonton?

The Oilers have to be considered the favorite until proven otherwise.

That won’t stop other fans from wanting the legend, too.

The biggest thing working in the favor of other teams here is the Oilers’ inability to get over the hump. They’ve lost in the last two Stanley Cup Finals to the Florida Panthers.

If McDavid doesn’t think they can win the big one, maybe he leaves town. But they’ve been so close, too, unlike the Maple Leafs and most of the rest of the NHL.

This will be a story worth watching all season long, or at least until McDavid puts pen to paper. And Maple Leafs fans will continue counting the days.
