The Toronto Maple Leafs are giving up on a once-promising 22-year old forward.
They have put Ty Voit on unconditional waivers with the intent to terminate his entry-level contract, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.
Voit was a fifth-round pick in 2021.
In 2022-23, he put up 105 points in 67 games for the Sarnia Sting in the OHL.
He dealt with injury setbacks the next season, when he could only play five games (eight points) in the ECHL for the Newfoundland Growlers.

The Maple Leafs didn’t give him a chance in the AHL, though. In 2024-25, he played again in the ECHL for the Cincinnati Cyclones and had 37 points in 63 games.
Pro Hockey Rumors suggests Voit could end up in the Penguins’ organization: “There’s a potential fit with the Penguins – he’s a Pittsburgh native and was drafted by current Pens general manager Kyle Dubas when he was in Toronto.”
At this point, Voit would probably take a chance from anywhere. It just won’t be from the Maple Leafs.
