Manchester United suffer massive blow as La Liga target inches closer to contract extension

It has been a decent transfer window for Manchester United as they have significantly improved their roster with the signings of Mathues Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Diego Leon.

However, Ruben Amorim is keen to add more reinforcements this summer with the focus on improving in midfield and goalkeeping areas.

They have been linked with several midfielders this summer and one name that has popped up multiple times in media reports has to be Valencia’s Javi Guerra.

The young Spanish midfielder is extremely highly rated in Valencia and also in all over Europe among scouts and therefore United have shown interested in the 22-year-old.

However, as per reports via MARCA, United’s pursuit of Guerra will only get tougher as the youngster is close to renewing his contract with Valencia.

Interestingly, a week or so ago, the teenage midfield sensation was unwilling to sign contract extension with Valencia knowing United’s interest in him.

But now it seems he has taken a ‘u-turn’ and this may force the Red Devils to look elsewhere.

Apart from United, AC Milan have also shown interest in the young midfielder and surprisingly, the Rossoneri offered €20m ($26.5m) package for Guerra but Valencia immediately rejected the bid.

On the other hand, United haven’t tabled any offer but they are still interested in the Spaniard and believe that he could be a perfect for Amorim’s system.

Manchester United still keen to sign a new midfielder this summer

Valencia are desperate to hold on to Guerra as he is key player for them in midfield. The La Liga outfit have already lost Cristhian Mosquera to Arsenal and aren’t ready to suffer another setback this summer.

So, it won’t be surprising if United fail to land the young Spaniard this summer if he signs a new contract with Valencia.

Guerra, who was part of the Spain team in the latest U21 Euros, has two years left in his contract and a new deal would keep him in Valencia until 2029 while his wages will triple from the 2025/26 season.

As per several reports, United will sign a new midfielder and Sporting CP’s skipper Morten Hjulmand could be their man this summer.

The Red Devils have shifted their focus from Guerra and have already placed a £35m ($46.5m) bid for the Danish midfielder.

Hjulmand is someone whom Amorim trust from his time at Sporting, and it won’t be surprising if he decides to bring the 25-year-old to Old Trafford.
