Manchester United outcast makes permanent move to La Liga

Manchester United have reached an agreement with Real Betis over the transfer of Antony on Deadline Day.

Antony arrived at Old Trafford from Ajax in August 2022, when former head coach Erik ten Hag was in charge, in a deal reportedly worth €95m (£81.3m back then), along with a potential €5m (£4.2m) in add-ons.

After losing his spot in the squad and significantly falling behind in new manager Ruben Amorim’s pecking order, Antony was loaned to La Liga club Real Betis in January 2025 for the remainder of the 2024–25 season.

Last week, several reports suggested that while it seemed Man United and Real Betis were set to make a deal for Antony on Friday, the Spanish club withdrew their offer, and the potential deal fell through as the 25-year-old wanted part of his contract at the English club to be paid off.

Discussions between the two clubs took place over the weekend about Antony, who has two years left in his contract at United, and now the Brazilian is ready to undergo a medical for Real Betis, according to BBC Sport.

What are the terms of Man United star Antony’s new deal at La Liga club Real Betis?

Man United and Real Betis have agreed on a fee of €25m (£21.6m), with an additional €3m in potential bonuses for a permanent move for Antony, as per The Athletic. The deal also includes a sell-on clause for the Red Devils, which would let them receive 50% of the profit that the Spanish club could make on a future transfer.

With this move, Man United are taking a huge loss on Antony, considering the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Earlier today, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Antony is currently in Sevilla and his medical assessment to join Real Betis is expected to take place in the next 24 hours.

During his six-month loan tenure, Antony netted a total of nine goals and provided five assists in 26 games.

With an official announcement from either club and/or player expected soon, Antony is set to part ways with Man United after recording 12 goals and five assists in 96 matches across competitions.
