Manchester United close in on Sporting CP teen as personal terms agreed

Manchester United are edging closer to their first summer signing after reportedly agreeing personal terms with Sporting Lisbon’s rising star, Geovany Quenda.

The 17-year-old has impressed this season, and new United boss Ruben Amorim is keen on reuniting with the talented winger at Old Trafford.

Quenda has been a standout performer for Sporting, contributing two goals and seven assists in 38 appearances across all competitions.

He has also gained valuable experience in the Champions League, where he registered an assist in nine outings. Amorim, who gave Quenda his senior debut at Sporting, sees the youngster as a key part of his plans at United.

Ben Jacobs on Quenda to Man United transfer link

Reports initially suggested that United had agreed on a £50m deal with Sporting, but journalist Ben Jacobs has denied those claims.

However, he confirmed that Quenda has verbally agreed to personal terms and is now waiting for the two clubs to settle on a transfer fee.

“The player has agreed verbally to personal terms. He’s waiting to see if the clubs reach an agreement or if they wait until the summer,” Jacobs told talkSPORT.

United are currently negotiating a fee, with their valuation set at around €40m (£33m), while Sporting are holding out for €60m (£50m).

The Portuguese club’s release clause for Quenda stands at €100m (£83m), but United hope to strike a deal at a lower price.

Where would Geovany Quenda fit into Man United XI?

Quenda has shown versatility in his young career, playing as a right-winger and even operating as a wing-back under Amorim.

Recently, he has also featured on the left, highlighting his adaptability. Amorim is looking to strengthen United’s wide areas, and Quenda’s potential makes him an exciting prospect for the future.

Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain are also keeping an eye on Quenda, but United’s strong connection through Amorim gives them an advantage in securing the talented winger’s signature.
