Manchester City eye explosive Serie A star in major summer transfer push

Manchester City have entered the summer transfer window determined to rebuild a squad capable of challenging for multiple trophies in the 2025/26 season.

After finishing third in the Premier League in 2024/25, the club moved quickly to add Tijjani Reijnders for £46m [$61m] from AC Milan, Rayan Cherki from Lyon for an initial €36m [$41m] and Rayan Ait-Nouri from Wolves for £31m [$41m].

They also signed Sverre Nypan from Rosenborg and goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli from Chelsea in a clear plan to strengthen across their squad.

However, City are not finished yet with a close eye being kept on Barcelona full-back Jules Kounde and PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Both moves may not materialise before the September 1 transfer deadline but the Cityzens are considering a major attacking addition in the weeks ahead.

The Portugual international has earned admiration for his speed, strength and ability to break defensive lines as a standout star in Serie A.

City rumoured to be plotting a €100m [$115m] bid to convince Milan to part with their most valuable player.

While Leao has not publicly requested a move away from the San Siro, the chance to work under Guardiola is a powerful attraction, which could tip the balance in City’s favour.

It will be a tough sell to convince Milan to accept an exit but know a record-breaking offer will be difficult to reject.
