Manchester United have made a clear call on Jadon Sancho — and it’s one that was expected by many.
The English winger is reportedly set to leave Old Trafford this summer as the club looks to raise money for new signings. Chelsea, once seen as a possible destination, have now stepped away from the deal.
Sancho, who joined United from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 for £73 million, spent last season on loan at Chelsea.
Things started off quietly, but he ended the campaign with five goals and ten assists across 42 games. He also helped the Blues win the Conference League with a goal in the final.
But that wasn’t enough to convince Chelsea to keep him. Despite an option to buy him for £25 million, they chose to pull out — and will now pay a £5 million penalty for backing off.
That leaves United with a player they no longer plan to use, and Sancho with a suitcase probably still half-packed.
Man Utd’s transfer plan for Jadon Sancho
Fabrizio Romano gave fans a glimpse behind the curtain, saying:
“Jadon Sancho, not expected to stay at Manchester United this summer. He’s included in list of players available for sale to generate funds and reinvest on different signings. Sancho’s camp will assess options in the upcoming days/weeks.”

Chelsea had only paid half of Sancho’s reported £300,000-a-week salary during the loan and skipped a loan fee entirely.
Talks over a permanent deal broke down, with Sancho unwilling to take a major pay cut. With just one year left on his United deal, the clock is ticking.
Now, Sancho’s next move will depend on who’s willing to bet on a player who still has talent — but also baggage. For United, it’s about cutting losses and clearing room for fresh legs.
