The 2025/26 Premier League season is starting with a bang as title hopefuls Arsenal travel to Old Trafford for a meeting with Manchester United on Sunday.
Both teams have spent significant money this offseason to refresh the attack, with Arsenal securing striker Viktor Gyokeres and United capturing Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko.
Arsenal have finished second in the Premier League title race three seasons in a row and are hoping this is their year Mikel Arteta gets the Gunners over the hump. United, meanwhile, are just looking to improve on last season’s woeful 16th-place finish that left them without European football of any kind this season.
A lot is on the line for both managers as the new season begins. For Arteta, it’s now or never to finally get the Gunners to lift a league trophy, while Ruben Amorim used up all his leash last season and will have no excuses this year if he is to retain his role at the head of Man United.

Manchester United completely retooled their offense from last season, but they did not address the midfield or back line, both areas which also featured significant deficiencies, especially in defense.
The Red Devils are not yet equipped to compete for a Champions League place, and therefore will struggle against the title contenders in league play this season.

While both clubs have spent big on attacking players this past summer, often times those new signings take time to adapt to the Premier League. It’s possible that Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko both require a few games in domestic play before they grasp the minutiae of how the league operates on a touch-by-touch basis.
Two of United’s new additions, Cunha and Mbeumo, are already adapted as they arrive from other Premier League clubs, but those players will need to adapt to their role in Ruben Amorim’s very specific tactical setup.
It’s possible that the defensive units, especially Arsenal’s exceptional back line, could be largely in command of this game.
