Man United star rejects exit ‘whatever happens’ in transfer saga

Manchester United struggled for goals last season, and it was a big reason why they finished 15th in the Premier League points table.

One of the primary reasons for their downfall last season was down to Rasmus Hojlund, who could only manage to score four goals in 32 league games.

While many fans wanted the Danish striker sold this summer, it seems like the 22-year-old may get another season to prove his mettle at Old Trafford.

Recently, Hojlund appeared in an interview where he discussed his future, past failures and willing to prove a point at Manchester United.

Hojlund has looked sharp in United’s preseason games especially in the 4-1 thrashing over Bournemouth where he scored the first goal early on in the game.

“I am still very young, people sometimes forget that. I am only 22 years old. I have learned a lot, and I think that shows in my game. I have done very well so far during the pre-season… I want to stay here,” Hojlund told ESPN.

United have already signed Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbuemo in attack and may also sign a proper striker as they are linked with RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.

However, none of that threatens Hojlund, who is keen to prove a point in the upcoming campaign and isn’t shying away from competition in his position.

“Competition is fine with me. It sharpens me!”

“I’m more than ready. I’m feeling sharp, so I’m welcoming everything that comes. I think it’s good with competition”.

Hojlund keen to prove himself at Manchester United

The young forward was heavily linked with Serie A clubs including Napoli and Juventus, but the 22-year-old is willing to stay at Old Trafford.

He moved to Old Trafford in 2023 after he impressed at Atalanta in a solitary season. The young forward had a decent debut campaign at United, netting 16 goals across competitions.

However, he failed to build on his good form as he struggled with injuries and form in the 2024/25 campaign, scoring only 10 goals.

Interestingly, this is the first time he is featuring in a proper preseason tour for United after missing out the last two due to injuries.

Despite Hojlund’s goal against Bournemouth, Ruben Amorim has given no guarantees about the 22-year-old’s future at the club.

“The important thing is that Rasmus is scoring goals,” the United head coach said.

“He’s connecting really well with the team. He’s improving. I don’t know what is going to happen until the market is closed.”
