Man United set for surprise goalkeeper exit as new signing looms

Manchester United’s goalkeeping merry-go-round may soon take another turn.

Reports (via Football Insider) suggest the club is preparing to offload one of its current shot-stoppers as Belgian keeper Senne Lammens edges closer to a move from Royal Antwerp.

With questions already swirling about Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir, it seems another change between the posts could be on the horizon.

The Red Devils have focused heavily on attacking signings this summer, but the goalkeeper situation remains unsettled.

Lammens, just 23, is viewed as a long-term option rather than an immediate No.1. Still, his arrival could push out either Onana or Bayindir, with veteran Tom Heaton expected to stay on as third choice.

Can Man United sign Lammens this summer?

As per same reports, United are confident of wrapping up a deal worth around £17 million for Lammens. If that happens, the club will reportedly look to move on one of its senior keepers before the deadline.

Onana has struggled since joining from Inter Milan in 2023, with costly mistakes and a dip in form damaging his reputation.

But at 29 and with a £50m price tag attached, attracting offers has been tough. Bayindir, meanwhile, only joined in 2023 for a much smaller fee, making him a more realistic sale if funds are needed.

United must also keep an eye on the Premier League’s financial rules. Offloading Bayindir could free space on the wage bill and allow Ruben Amorim to address gaps elsewhere in the squad, most notably midfield.

Lammens himself has just 13 clean sheets in 68 games, but United see potential in the young Belgian. For fans, though, the revolving door of goalkeepers might feel less like stability and more like musical chairs in the six-yard box.

United may be chasing clean sheets, but the real battle right now is balancing the books.
