Man United offered bold Serie A transfer swap to secure 26-goal striker

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim is working overtime to boost his squad this summer.

The Red Devils ended the 2024/25 Premier League in 15th place – their lowest-ever EPL finish – with just 42 points from 38 games as part of a damaging demise.

Amorim has faced the issue head on – and vowed to fight on at Old Trafford – despite the lack of European qualification following defeat to Tottenham in the UEFA Europa League final.

Sales are planned within Amorim’s squad, with Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Antony all tipped to move on, following loan spells away from Manchester in the last 12 months.

If Amorim can offload all three, that will boost his transfer budget, as he aims to secure a £55m [$70m] deal for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.

Brazil international Matheus Cunha has already landed as part of a £62.5m [$82m] from Wolves and Amorim is looking at a host of options including a revived bid for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

Victor Osimhen to Man United: Transfer fee, Saudi Pro League latest

United have been linked with Nigeria international Osimhen multiple times in the last 12 months either side of Amorim’s arrival at the end of 2024.

Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres remains an option for United – alongside ongoing interest in the Swede from Arsenal – but the latest update from Portugal indicates his current club could demand in the region of €83m [$95m] to consider a sale.

However, United have a number of variables in their favour in the race for Osimhen, with Napoli keen to sell the 26-year-old this summer.

Osimhen’s current deal in Naples expires in June 2026, and the current window is their last chance to secure a fee, and avoid a free transfer exit next year.

Interest from the Saudi Pro League remains strong, with several SPL sides willing to pay Napoli’s €75m [$85m] asking price, which United cannot afford outright.

The solution could lie in a player-plus-cash deal, as per Gazzetta dello Sport, with Joshua Zirkzee possibly heading back to Serie A.

The Dutch international is rumoured to be unsettled in Manchester, after scoring just three EPL goals in his debut season, after joining from Bologna last summer.

In contrast, Osimhen netted 26 league goals on loan at Galatasaray in 2024/25 – as the Turkish giants sealed a domestic trophy double – but he will not be returning to Istanbul.

Adding in Zirkzee could halve the price United would need to pay for Osimhen and the exits of other stars would finance a major contract offer.
