Man United make ‘new No.10 decision’ after Marcus Rashford transfer statement

Manchester United look set to be on the hunt for a new No.10 for the 2025/26 season.

The Red Devils have reportedly made a final decision on Marcus Rashford’s future at the club with the England star currently impressing on loan at Aston Villa.

Unai Emery’s sealed a January deal to bring in Rashford until the end of the current campaign and Villa have an option to make move permanent for a £40m [52m] fee in June.

No decision will be taken from Villa’s side until the end of the season, with Emery waiting to see if his team can secure another UEFA Champions League qualification – which would provide a major financial boost.

However, one half of the call has been made, as per reports from the Daily Star – with Ruben Amorim closing the door on a potential return for Rashford at Old Trafford in 2025.

That stance was expected, based on Amorim’s previous indications over Rashford, and his expected departure will free up the iconic Man United No.10 shirt for 2025/26.

No.10 and No.7 have entered Red Devils folklore with some club legends wearing either or both numbers in the past. The former was worn by historic figures at the club including Sir Bobby Charlton and George Best with Premier League era No.10s featuring David Beckham, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Reports from the Manchester Evening News claim United insiders have already decided Amad Diallo will take over Rashford’s No.10 with Ivorian viewed as a future star.

Amad Diallo – currently No.16 in Amorim’s squad – has impressed in a mixed team season with nine goals and seven assists and he is viewed as a stronger long-term pick than Alejandro Garnacho.
