Manchester United’s legendary defender Nemanja Vidic has expressed his desire to manage the Red Devils in the future.
Vidic arrived at Old Trafford from Russian club Spartak Moscow in 2006 and won 15 trophies with Man United during his eight-year tenure there, including five Premier League titles and one UEFA Champions League title.
Vidic announced his retirement from the sport after spending the last two years of his playing career at Inter Milan.
While in an interview with Sky Bet’s The Overlap, Vidic mentioned that if he is likely to return to the game in a managerial role, it would have to be with Man United, and said,
“If I was to manage or coach anyone, it would have to be Manchester United. I like things when they’re difficult and to change something from difficult to good, this is something I like to do.”
Vidic further spoke about his plans in the near future and added,

“I’m open an opportunity to be a coach, or to work in football as a Sporting Director, or even the Serbian President of the FA – that was the plan a few years ago – it didn’t happen but maybe it could happen in the future.”
“Obviously, what I’m doing outside [of football], business wise, creating a company which is going to be not just successful but is going to be who I am as well. Everything I do, I like to do the best I can, and to produce the quality. In the business I’m doing now, with the apartments, that’s what I’m trying to achieve as well. To create good apartments and nice buildings, which I’m going to be proud walking in, and being proud of what I’ve built.”
While Vidic could be eyeing a managerial position at Old Trafford, Man United appointed Ruben Amorim as their head coach in November last year, following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag.
What’s next for Manchester United?
Manchester United had another disappointing run in the 2024/25 season with a 15th-place finish in the Premier League and no trophies. The Red Devils will not be a part of any European competition for the upcoming season.
Despite their underwhelming form, Man United are continuing with Ruben Amorim, who has been in charge for only about eight months now, for the upcoming season.
Man United are set to meet Leeds United in a pre-season friendly match on July 19, at Friends Arena in Sweden. The Red Devils will kick off their 2025/26 Premier League season by hosting Arsenal on August 17.
