Man United add ex-Premier League flop to striker shortlist

Manchester United are reportedly in the market to bring in a new goalscorer this summer amid their high-profile struggles in front of goal in 2024/25.

Red Devils fans are expecting a squad revamp under Ruben Amorim in the months ahead, and the wider management are keen to secure attacking reinforcements, to transform the team into a more potent attacking unit.

Several forwards have popped up on their radar ahead of the summer transfer window with the latest name, as per FootMercato, Fiorentina star Moise Kean.

After years of inconsistency and struggles at Juventus, and later at Everton, it seems Kean has finally realised his potential.

The 25-year-old has come of age with 17 goals this season in 30 Serie A appearances. Overall, he has netted 23 goals in 43 outings across all competitions.

The Italian marksman is currently the second-highest goalscorer in Serie A in 2024/25 with only Atalanta’s Matteo Retegui in front of him on 24 goals.

Will Man United sign Moise Kean this summer?

There’s no doubt Kean has improved under Raffaele Palladino. The 25-year-old, who was once framed as a flop due to his inconsistency at Everton, is showing more maturity as the main man for the Viola this season.

According to the report, Bayern Munich are also monitoring him, alongside United. However, Fiorentina are under no pressure to sell, as Kean’s current contract runs until 2029, and they paid €13m [$15m] to bring him from Juventus less than a year ago.

His contract contract does include a €50m [$56m] release clause, which will be valid from July. So clubs are monitoring his progress and if he keeps performing as he currently, there will be suitors for him soon rather than later.

For now, he joins United’s long list of striker options including Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres, Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap, Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak and Victor Osimhen.

United’s drive to qualify for the UEFA Champions League will also be crucial as it heavily impacts Amorim’s transfer budget.

Kean could be a viable option for Amorim, if he can be convinced over a second spell in the Premier League, after a dismal time at Everton where he made 39 appearances in three seasons and scored just four goals.
