Knowing they still maintain a strong position atop the Premier League table, Liverpool hit the road to visit Manchester City in a Sunday spotlight match.
The Reds were left somewhat vulnerable having won just one of their last four, but Arsenal have failed to capitalize on the situation at the top of the standings.
With the pressure somewhat eased, Arne Slot’s crew can now focus on the task at hand, with this match followed a few days later by another tough road trip to Newcastle. From there, the attention will turn to their Champions League Round of 16 matchup with PSG.
Man City, meanwhile, are still in turmoil as they cling to the life raft at the bottom of the Premier League’s top five places. Knowing fifth place in the English top flight will almost surely secure a Champions League spot next year, City have done just barely enough to stay afloat, but have four teams within three points behind them.

Liverpool absolutely pummeled Man City in the reverse fixture at Anfield, winning 2-0 while out-shooting Pep Guardiola’s side 18-8 for a 3.57-0.84 xG advantage.
This likely won’t be as lopsided a matchup. First of all, it’s at the Etihad, and second of all, Man City are a slightly improved side thanks to good business in the winter transfer window. Still, with the understanding that the last meeting should have been an even more lopsided affair, and City’s home field advantage isn’t as significant as other English sides, it’s hard to see how things will change enough in this meeting to justify a different end result.

Man City vs. Liverpool best bet
- Pick: Mohamed Salah anytime goal scorer
- Odds: +130 (FanDuel)
Mohamed Salah is have a Ballon d’Or caliber season, thanks to both incredible volume and exceptional efficiency. When you can combine both of those features together, it produces the kind of world-class campaign that Salah has put together.
Averaging 3.7 shots per match on the Premier League season, Salah has hit for three efforts in both of his last two appearances against Man City, including a 29-minute substitute showing in the 1-1 draw last March. Even more impressive are his seven goals across his last 11 league games against City, as he terrorizes even the best title-winning Guardiola sides.
With other Liverpool strikers — namely, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota — seemingly becoming more and more impotent in front of goal as the season drags on, Salah has had to take on a larger finishing role in the last few months, continuing to deliver even with the increased responsibility.
Parlaying these two selections together gives over a 2/1 return, but either or both individually are also perfectly reasonable options.
Man City vs. Liverpool prop bet
- Pick: Over 3.5 total goals
- Odds: -105 (DraftKings)
While each of the last three meetings between these two sides have gone under the total, the latest two both featured poor finishing, something that is a relative rarity for both these sides.
Between last March’s 1-1 draw and the December 2-0 Liverpool win, the teams put up a combined 8.67 expected goals while bagging only four. 6.27 of that xG was collected by Liverpool, who scored only three goals from it.
City coughed up six goals across two legs against Real Madrid, and were pummeled 5-1 by Arsenal not long ago. They still have midfield and defensive issues, especially with the availability of John Stones still in question. Liverpool will have their chances to put up a big total.
