The end of the 2024-25 season marks the beginning of the summer transfer window and the Manchester archrivals are reportedly set for a new battle.
Manchester City finished third in the Premier League table, while Manchester United ended up 15th. While both clubs failed to claim any major silverware this season, significant changes are anticipated in the respective squads to ensure a better run next campaign.
Man City’s reported transfer target list is indicative of Pep Guardiola’s interest in adding more midfielders to his squad for the upcoming season. They have been heavily linked to make a move for AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders and Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White, among others.
Now, City have reportedly added another name to their transfer target list, coinciding with the interests of Man United this summer.
Which Ligue 1 midfielder is wanted by both Man City and Man United?
Rayan Cherki has reportedly attracted attention from both sides of Manchester with his displays for Olympique Lyonnais. The 21-year-old’s efforts on the pitch have turned heads, making him one of the brightest up-and-coming prospects in Ligue 1.
Man City have already established contact to ask about the financial clauses to potentially acquire Cherki’s signature for next season, according to The Telegraph.

Cherki, who is a regular starter for his boyhood club Lyon, has netted 12 goals and provided 20 assists in 44 appearances across competitions in the past season.
While Cherki would make a great potential addition to both Man City and Man United, it remains to be seen if Lyon is ready to part ways with one of their most promising prodigies. The Frenchman’s current contract with the Ligue 1 club is valid until the summer of 2026.
