Man City star could exit this summer after several ‘top-level enquiries’

Manchester City bagged three points by securing a 4-0 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers in their opening match of the 2025/26 Premier League on August 16, at Molineux Stadium.

Man City have been busy this summer with several new arrivals, along with a few departures, and now reports have suggested that there may be one more from Pep Guardiola’s squad who could take his leave from the Etihad soon.

Ilkay Gundogan could part ways with Manchester City in the upcoming days, according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg.

Gundogan returned to Man City last year for a second stint after his one-season tenure at Barcelona. The 34-year-old star’s future at the English club has been uncertain, with their new summer signings of Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki to strengthen the midfield.

Man City’s new reinforcements in the midfield have raised doubts about Gundogan’s position in Guardiola’s pecking order. The German star was named on the bench against Wolves and remained an unused substitute for the game.

What’s next for Manchester City and Ilkay Gundogan?

Plettenberg’s report suggested that Gundogan’s departure is expected by Deadline Day, and there have been several enquiries from top clubs across leagues.

Super Lig club Galatasaray have been heavily linked with making a move to acquire Gundogan’s signature this summer. With Guardiola recently mentioning that there are too many players in his squad, Man City are anticipated to be open to the midfielder’s departure for the right price.

Gundogan has made a total of 358 appearances for Man City across two stints while recording 65 goals and 47 assists. His current contract at the Etihad is valid until next summer.

Man City are set to face Tottenham in their next league clash on August 23, at the Etihad Stadium.
