Man City set asking price for English star wanted by Premier League clubs

Manchester City are going strong in the summer transfer window with five new signings already landing at the Etihad Stadium.

Fresh faces coming in will benefit Pep Guardiola’s squad, but there has also been some crucial departures, as former captains Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker moved on.

Guardiola is on course to offload more first team players in August, and midfielder James McAtee, is the latest to be linked with a move away from Manchester, with an updated asking price now set in place.

McAtee started his senior career at City in 2021, before being loaned to Sheffield United for two seasons, and returning in 2024.

On his comeback to City, the 22-year-old was unable to earn a regular spot in Guardiola’s playing squad, and he is now considering a permanent exit

McAtee only started in nine of the 27 appearances he made in the 2024/25 campaign, during which he netted seven goals. He was not included in the squad that made the trip to the United States for the Club World Cup last month as he captained England to UEFA Euro 2021 European Championship glory.

Despite his struggles to break into Guardiola’s plans, McAtee impressed in his limited role, and City have now set his valuation at £35m [$47m] according to the Telegraph.

Who wants to sign Manchester City’s James McAtee?

City’s Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest and West Ham United, are both interested in acquiring McAtee’s signature this summer.

Bundesliga duo Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund are also in the race and the report hints the interested clubs were initially hoping to buy him for between £20-25m [$27-33m].

The question now focuses on a compromise, of those chasing McAtee increasing their offers, and City potentially dropping their expectations.

A move away could revive McAtee’s stalling career and it will also allow City to free up space in their squad in line with the Profit and Sustainability Rules.

McAtee’s current contract at Man City is valid until the summer of 2026 and this is the club’s final realistic chance to secure a transfer fee.
