Man City seal Gianluigi Donnarumma contract agreement but transfer depends on one key thing

Manchester City have taken a major step in the transfer market by reaching an agreement over personal terms with Gianluigi Donnarumma, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian goalkeeper, once hailed as the heir to Gianluigi Buffon, is now waiting on club-to-club talks between City and Paris Saint-Germain before the deal can progress.

Donnarumma’s fall in Paris was as swift as his rise. After playing a key role in the club’s first-ever UEFA Champions League triumph, he and PSG were unable to come to terms on a new contract.

The French champions quickly spent £47m [$64m] on Lucas Chevalier from Lille and Italian’s fate was sealed after being was omitted from the Super Cup win against Tottenham.

“Unfortunately, someone has decided I can no longer be part of the group and contribute to the team’s success,” Donnarumma posted on social media before the clash.

“I’m disappointed and disheartened.”

PSG reportedly placed a £43.3m [$58m] fee on him with his contract at the Parc des Princes expiring in 2026.

City’s interest in the shot-stopper stems from Ederson links to Galatasaray.

James Trafford has also endured a difficult start back at the Etihad Stadium, after being re-signed signed for £27m [$36m] to compete with Ederson, Trafford kept a clean sheet on his debut but struggled in the 2–0 loss to Spurs.

Guardiola explained the decision afterwards: “He made a good first game and I decided to continue. When I take decisions in the first part of the season, everyone thinks this is the starting lineup. It was just today I decided that.”

The race for Donnarumma hinges on one key thing

According to transfer expert Romano, Donnarumma’s potential move to City hinges on Ederson’s departure to Galatasaray.

The Star claim the Istanbul club are pushing to sign Ederson, along with Manuel Akanji and Ilkay Gundogan.

Earlier reports suggested their initial £8.5m [$11.5m] bid for Ederson was rejected, with City valuing him closer to £30m [$40m], in what is the final year of his contract.

Talks have since slowed, as Galatasaray turned attention to Porto’s Diogo Costa, but the interest in Ederson has not disappeared.
