Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola believes that Liverpool ‘will be back’ to their winning ways amid the Reds’ recent slump.
Liverpool started the campaign right with seven consecutive wins across competitions. However, following this perfect run, things started going downhill for the Reds as they faced four back-to-back defeats.
Even though they firmly stood on top of the Premier League table with straight wins in their first five league games, the Reds have been on the receiving end of defeats in their last three games in the top flight, where they currently rank third with 15 points.
Liverpool’s drop in form brought in much criticism from pundits, former players, and fans, along with concerns about the reigning Premier League champions potentially having a disappointing run in the ongoing season.
Guardiola, however, has insisted that Liverpool will bounce back while expressing hope that, along with the Reds and table-toppers Arsenal, his own squad will be contenders in the Premier League title race. The Catalan manager told reporters,
“Well, in the first two games, three games, yeah for sure we are out [of the Premier League title race]. And Liverpool is already done, and now it looks like Liverpool is done. And I’ll tell you that they will be back,” as per OneFootball.

“I’ve said many times, I know all the pundits, all the specialists or former players, they know everything that is going to happen after five games – I’m not able to do that. So, always I wait for 10, 15 games to know exactly what is going on. But I think obviously Liverpool and Arsenal are there, someone else will be there, and hopefully we can be there.”
Liverpool secured a 5-1 victory against Eintracht Frankfurt in their third match of the 2025/26 Champions League on October 22. The Reds will be hoping to extend this success to their upcoming Premier League clash against Brentford on October 25 at Gtech Community Stadium.
What’s next for Manchester City?
Man City are currently on a nine-match undefeated streak across all competitions.
Guardiola’s clan, who are second in the Premier League with 16 points in eight matches, are now headed to face Aston Villa on October 26 at Villa Park.
During his pre-match press conference, Guardiola shared his take on the upcoming clash, mentioning his admiration for Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery, and said,
“They were much, much better than us in the last two fixtures we played at Villa Park. Hopefully it will be different on Sunday. The admiration I have for Unai is so high. He is incredibly consistent, well prepared and so smart, really good.”
“Aston Villa I know they aren’t in the Champions League for a one point. I think in the last nine games they won eight and then just lost the last one at Old Trafford. So for me it is a team that is Champions League. They created a lot of problems for the Champions League winners, PSG so they are well organised, with a lot of quality and they have everything.”
Guardiola candidly claimed that the match on Sunday is going to be one of Man City’s ‘toughest away games’ this campaign, and concluded,
“It’s one of the toughest, toughest, toughest away games we have in the season.”
Overall, Man City have won 10 out of the 25 Premier League away games against Aston Villa, who managed seven victories, while the remaining eight games have ended in a draw.
