Major League Baseball makes Astros’ Isaac Paredes announcement

The Houston Astros, sitting atop the AL West and within range of the top spot in the American League, are sending strong representation to the All-Star game. Hunter Brown, Jeremy Pena, and Josh Hader were the initial All-Stars, but another Astro earned an All-Star nod as a replacement.

Major League Baseball announced that Astros third baseman Isaac Paredes is an All-Star for the 2025 season. He replaces Cleveland Guardians’ Jose Ramirez on the AL All-Star roster and will join his three teammates in Atlanta for the festivities.

Paredes is in his first season with the Astros after a tumultuous past year. He began the 2024 season with the Tampa Bay Rays and was later traded to the Chicago Cubs. Paredes was then dealt with Cam Smith to the Astros for Kyle Tucker.

In less than one year, Paredes went from the Rays to the Cubs and finally to the Astros. But, he didn’t let it affect him, as he not only earned his first All-Star nod in 2024, but he also made back-to-back All-Star games with his nod this season.

In 88 games with the Astros this season, Paredes has 84 hits, 49 runs scored, 12 doubles, one triple, 19 home runs, 49 RBIs, 47 walks, and 65 strikeouts. His .255 batting average was .010 higher than it was with the Rays when he was an All-Star in 2024.

He also has a higher on-base percentage (.358) and slugging percentage (.471) than he did during his initial All-Star campaign with the Rays in 2024. His .830 OPS through the first half of the Astros’ season is the second-best of his career, behind only his breakout 2023 campaign.

As compensation for trading Tucker, the Astros have more than made their money’s worth with Paredes and Smith. While Smith is 22 years old and breaking out in a major way, Paredes is 26 years old and is the focal point of the Astros’ offense this season.

While he’s making the All-Star team as a replacement for another player, Paredes more than deserves the nod, as he’s been incredible for the Astros this season.
