The Orlando Magic have the foundation for a dynasty, headlined by the star forward duo of Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner. However, one proven superstar addition could make them a win-now contender, and they might get that man this offseason.
According to Fansided’s Christopher Kline, the Magic are predicted to trade for ex-Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Kevin Durant, who looks like he’s done with the Phoenix Suns, his current team.
“Another left-field option that feels extremely practical, the Orlando Magic desperately need shooting,” Kline wrote. “Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner are budding stars on the wing, but without spacing, the offense is a total slog. Durant immediately boosts their 3-point volume and adds a new dynamic to this Magic squad. His presence should benefit both Banchero and Wagner, too.”
Orlando might not be the choice Durant wants though, as he usually goes to proven contenders. He left the Thunder in 2016 to go to the guys who beat him in the Western Conference Finals, the Golden State Warriors. Then he joined with an MVP in James Harden and NBA champion in Kyrie Irving with the Brooklyn Nets, then joined two All-Stars on his current team, the Suns.
However, the Magic are great, and if he thinks he’s the last piece for a championship run, the Magic shouldn’t be ruled out. He would also be a great mentor to Banchero and Wagner, who could learn from his playstyle.
If the Magic can get Durant, they should. Having a veteran superstar who’s still good on your team and being a mentor for your young stars is definitely worth it.
