A specter looms atop the NFL’s running back hierarchy. He happens to be outfitted in forest green and white on most weeks.

The NFL’s best tailback in 2024 was Saquon Barkley. The Eagles star put forth one of the best campaigns in modern history among running backs, surpassing 2,000 yards during the regular season while securing his first Lombardi Trophy.

Barkley wasn’t the only reason for the team’s success. He was shepherded by an impressive group of linemen, including Lane Johnson, Jordan Mailata, and Cam Jurgens.

Nevertheless, Barkley was wondrous. He was summarily rewarded for his displays, picking up an All-Pro First-Team appearance, an AP Offensive Player of the Year nod, and, perhaps most notably — at least to video game connoisseurs — a place on the Madden 26 cover.

Unsurprisingly, he also received 99 overall billing, making him the game’s top running back.
