Manchester United’s season now hinges solely on their continental campaign as they visit Lyon for the first leg of their Europa League quarterfinal on Thursday.
With their Premier League season a lost cause, the Red Devils are now fully focused on pushing as deep as they can into the Europa League. Winning the title would secure qualification to the Champions League next season, but even if they fall short of that, the further they go the more prize money they earn towards improving the squad this offseason.
Head coach Ruben Amorim will continue looking to create unity and togetherness within the United squad, as he further implements his tactical setup.
Lyon, meanwhile, are fifth in the Ligue 1 table and hoping to push further up for Champions League qualification, but they too will know that a Europa League title brings that guarantee with it as well.

Lyon vs. Man United live updates, highlights from Europa League
1 hour 15 mins to kick: Lyon have never beaten Manchester United previously, having played four games in the past. They met twice in the 2004/05 Champions League group stage, with United winning at Old Trafford and the two sides drawing in France. They clashed again in the UCL Round of 16 in 2008, with United advancing 2-1 on aggregate after a 1-1 draw in France and a 1-0 United win at home.

1 hour 30 mins to kick: The recent form of these two teams is in stark contrast. Man United have only won three of their last 10 matches across all competitions, while Lyon have won eight.
Yet the Red Devils have been at their best in European play, currently unbeaten in their 10 Europa League games so far this season.

1 hour 45 mins to kick: Earlier today, former Man United midfielder Nemanja Matic took a huge shot at current Red Devils goalkeeper Andre Onana.
In response to some relatively tame comments by Onana where he praised Lyon as a “very, very good team” before saying Manchester United were a “way better” side.
Matic didn’t take kindly to that, and laid into his former club, and specifically Onana. “When you are one of the worst goalkeepers in Manchester United history, you need to take care what you’re talking about,” Matic said. YIKES. This will undoubtedly provide a nasty subtext to today’s match.
“It’s a normal thing!’

2 hours to kickoff: Bruno Fernandes has been exceptional this season, even while the rest of the Manchester United squad falters around him. While he remains his usual world-class self in the attacking third, creating a host of chances, he’s also been excellent breaking up opposition possession on the other end.
Bruno Fernandes is the only player in Europe’s top five leagues this season with 70+ tackles and interceptions and 70+ chances created.
Strong in defence, even stronger in attack 🔥

Lyon vs. Man United lineups, team news
Sitting fifth in the Ligue 1 table, Lyon are in good squad shape for it being this late in the season, with only two absences to work around. Young Kent academy product Malick Fofana is out with a knee sprain, while fellow youngster Ernest Nuamah is recovering from a torn ACL. Otherwise, this squad is fully fit.
Former Man United midfielder Nemanja Matic will play against his old club, likely to start alongside USMNT international Tanner Tessmann, who has grown into a regular starter since joining from Serie A side Venezia.
Other former Premier League players that fans will recognize in the lineup include ex-Arsenal duo Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Alexandre Lacazette. The former has established himself as a regular starter, while the latter has gone in and out of the lineup as he looks to keep himself fully fit on an everyday basis at 33 years of age.
Lyon projected starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Perri (GK) — Maitland-Niles, Mata, Niakhate, Abner — Tesmann, Matic — Cherki, Tolisso, Almada — Lacazette.
Lyon subs: (Lineups released one hour prior to kickoff)
Manchester United will have a number of players on their way back from injury over the next few weeks. The one set to return soon is Kobbie Mainoo, who has made it back to training and is part of the United traveling squad for the match.
Another youngster on his way back soon is Ayden Heaven but the former Arsenal teenager did not travel. Matthijs de Ligt missed the Manchester derby with a knock and is still not with the side for this match, and the same goes for Johnny Evans.
Further weakening the squad at the back is the season-long absence of Lisandro Martinez with a torn ACL, while Amad Diallo is also down until the summer.
Man United projected starting lineup (4-3-3): Onana (GK) — Mazraoui, Maguire, Yoro — Dalot, Casemiro, Ugarte, Dorgu — Fernandes, Hojlund, Garnacho.
