Luka Modric pays tribute to former manager with AC Milan shirt number

Real Madrid’s elimination from the semifinal of the Club World Cup last week marked the end of Luka Modric’s journey with the Spanish giants.

Back in May, Modric announced his decision to part ways with Real Madrid after 13 long years at Santiago Bernabeu following the competition.

With his contract at Los Blancos also expiring, Modric joined AC Milan as a free agent on a one-year contract that includes an option to extend for a further year.

Following his arrival in Milan, Modric briefly addressed the press on Monday, and shared his thoughts on this new chapter of his career, and said,

“I’m very happy to be here, great challenges await me, I will have time to talk about all this,” as per GOAL.

Now, after donning the iconic No. 10 shirt at Real Madrid for over a decade, Modric selected his new jersey number at AC Milan after undergoing medical assessments and finalising his move to the Italian club.

What is Real Madrid legend Luka Modric’s new shirt number at AC Milan?

Modric has chosen to wear the No. 14 shirt at AC Milan for the 2025-26 season.

The Croatian star’s selection pays tribute to former Rossoneri player and then head coach Carlo Ancelotti, who occasionally wore the No. 14 jersey during his playing days at San Siro.

Modric has been coached by Ancelotti across the Italian’s two managerial stints (2013–2015 and 2021–2025) at Real Madrid.

Modric is set to begin training with AC Milan on August 4 at Milanello and is expected to be a part of their pre-season friendly matches ahead of the Rossoneri’s opening game of the 2025/26 Serie A campaign in late August.
