Luka Doncic is on his way to the Los Angeles Lakers in a stunning move, landing Anthony Davis on the Dallas Mavericks.
Barring anything unforeseen, the five-time All-Star will join forces with LeBron James as both hope to bring another NBA championship back to LA. However, a team-up with the 20-time All-Star is not the only player Doncic is excited to unite, or in this case, reunite with.
In Oct. 2023, the Mavericks took down Doncic’s ex-teammate Dorian Finney-Smith, leading to the superstar saying this postgame.
“That’s my guy. I miss him so much, and I know we’re going to play [together] again someday,” Doncic said.
Finney-Smith was traded to the Nets in a deal that landed Kyrie Irving in Dallas, a move the latter recently poked fun at. While he became a fan favorite in Dallas, primarily for his tenacious defense and high character, Irving helped the Mavs make the NBA Finals in his first full season with the club.
Finney-Smith should help Doncic acclimate himself to a new situation for the first time in his NBA career, as expectations will be sky-high for the 25-year-old superstar. Doncic has played just 22 games this season and hasn’t been shooting the ball at a rate he’s capable of, as injuries have slowed him down.
Perhaps playing for one of the most legendary franchises in sports could reignite the Slovenian superstar, and having a familiar face by his side will only make the transition smoother.
