Luis Enrique cycling accident: Latest news with PSG boss to have surgery

Luis Enrique will require surgery after suffering a fractured collarbone in a cycling accident, Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed.

Former Spain and Barcelona head coach Luis Enrique, 55, has enjoyed incredible success in the French capital, winning back-to-back Ligue 1 titles and leading the club to a long-awaited UEFA Champions League success last season.

However, he now faces a spell recovering from injury.

Luis Enrique cycling crash latest news

The details surrounding the nature of the crash of its location are not widely known at this stage.

A statement issued by PSG read: “Following a cycling accident on Friday, Paris St Germain head coach Luis Enrique was treated by the emergency services and will undergo surgery for a fractured collarbone.

“The club expresses its full support and wishes him a swift recovery. Further updates will be shared in due course.”

Luis Enrique is a keen fitness and cycling enthusiast and completed the Frankfurt Ironman triathlon in 2007.

In September 2022, he announced his Spain squad for forthcoming UEFA Nations League games via a pre-recorded video of him on a cycle ride near Madrid.

Will Luis Enrique miss PSG matches?

It’s too early to say, with the severity of the fracture unknown at this stage.

PSG host Lens in their next match at the Parc des Princes on September 14. 

It begins a busy week for the European champions, who face Atalanta in their first Champions League game of the season on September 17 before travelling to face bitter rivals Marseille in Ligue 1 on September 21
