Luis Enrique crowns UCL Final’s ‘Mr. Humility’ as his Ballon d’Or pick

PSG broke their UEFA Champions League curse in emphatic style, delivering a 5-0 hammering to Inter Milan in the most one-sided final in the tournament’s history, outshining AC Milan’s 4-0 win over Barcelona from 1994.

As the spotlight shone on PSG’s goal scorers – with teenager Desire Doue netting twice in Munich – Luis Enrique reserved his own post-match praise for Ousmane Dembele, and backed the former Barca winger to win the 2025 Ballon d’Or.

Although Dembele did not register on the scoresheet, his pressing, work rate and selfless all-round game delighted the boss.

“I’d like to point out that everyone is focused on who will win the Ballon d’Or,” Enrique said to Culture PSG post match.

“I would give the Ballon d’Or — just for the way he defended in this final — to Mr. Ousmane Dembele”

Dembele completed two assists, created three chances, tracked back into his own half multiple times and constantly pressed the Inter backline.

The match itself was a masterclass in control from PSG from start to finish as Achraf Hakimi opened the scoring in the 12th minute.

Doue then doubled the lead from a flowing team move before making it 3-0 in the second half.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and 19-year-old substitute Senny Mayulu added two goals more to pile on the misery for the Nerazzurri.

While others got their names on the scoreboard at the Allianz Arena, Dembele was involved in everything positive about PSG – setting the high tempo, winning the ball back and leading the youngsters around him to historic glory.

The 28-year-old has been sensational throughout PSG’s UCL campaign with eight goals and six assists in 15 meetings.

Luis Enrique’s verdict was clear: “That’s what it means to lead a team with humility and leadership. I truly believe he deserves the Ballon d’Or, not just for the trophies won or goals scored, but for the way he pressed all season, and especially in this final.”
