Luis Enrique claims one thing PSG ‘won’t’ in Champions League final against Inter

Paris Saint-Germain are set to face Inter Milan in the Champions League final on May 31, at Allianz Arena, in Munich, Germany.

PSG have made it to the competition’s final only once before, in 2019-20, and are yet to lift their first-ever Champions League trophy in the club’s history. Inter Milan, meanwhile, have claimed the title thrice before, with the last time being in the 2009–10 season.

After bagging a win in their first Champions League clash, PSG slipped up for a bit in the subsequent matches, having to participate in playoffs to remain in the running. The French club has bagged 10 wins and suffered five losses of 16 games in the competition so far.

Speaking ahead of the upcoming clash, PSG head coach Luis Enrique claimed (comments via ESPN) that their struggles in the early stages of the competition have ‘helped’ his squad now.

“When you make history, it is about doing something that nobody at your club has done before. But I love their [players] mindset. We are where we want to be, but we want to try to be as strong as possible and win tomorrow,” he said.

“Our journey has been difficult, it’s been a long and winding road, but the fact we struggled through this competition in the early games has probably helped us now,” added Enrique.

The Spanish manager also mentioned what PSG ‘won’t’ be doing in the Champions League final on Saturday.

What did PSG boss say ahead of the Champions League final?

During his pre-match press conference on Friday, Enrique spoke about how his squad will not show ‘any signs of fear’ in the final as they have not so far in the competition.

“We have had to play ‘finals’ in this competition for a long time and had to deal with what has been thrown at us, but we haven’t shown any signs of fears so far and we won’t tomorrow,” he said.

Enrique expressed confidence in his ‘exceptional’ squad, praising their harmony and positive attitude.

“When a coach manages his squad, there is only one objective and that is to make sure the players are out there as best possible to win on the pitch. This is a team that’s used to playing finals. Motivation and the mental aspects are very important, but we’re used to this. We have had harmony and I haven’t changed anything. I have an exceptional squad and they have always seen the glass as half-full,” concluded Enrique.

PSG and Inter Milan have faced each other on six occasions so far, with the Italian club bagging three wins while the Parisians have managed a solo victory.
