Luis Diaz requests Arne Slot talks as Liverpool future decision is made

Liverpool star Luis Diaz is expected to make a decision on his future when the squad return for preseason next week.

Arne Slot’s stars will report back to their base in Kirkby on Tuesday July 8 following a change to their schedule after the tragic death of Reds star Diogo Jota.

The club are steeling reeling from the traumatic shock of Jota’s passing and their summer plans are expected to be impacted in the coming weeks with a first preseason game scheduled at Preston North End on July 13.

Colombia international Diaz will be among the players coming back for preseason testing ,and as per reports from Spanish outlet Marca, he wants immediate talks with Slot.

Diaz has been intermittently linked with a move to Barcelona since the start of 2025, after previously indicating his interest in making the switch to Catalonia, if conditions were suitable.

The former Porto winger is under contract at Anfield until 2027 – and has welcomed Liverpool’s stance on renewal talks – but he will only sign a deal he is convinced is best for his long-term future.

Barcelona are on the hunt for alternatives, following Nico Williams’ rejection earlier this month, and Diaz is their No.1 target with Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford viewed as a back up.

Luis Diaz prepares to request Liverpool exit amid contract stand off

The Red Devils are determined to offload Rashford, with an asking price set at £40m [$55m], whilst Diaz is valued at around £70m [$95m] due to his importance on Merseyside.

The report claims Diaz is ready to tell Slot he wants to leave, with Bayern Munich tabling an instant offer, as Barcelona wait to make their move.

Despite being a crucial part of Slot’s plans, Diaz is reportedly unhappy with his contract at the club, and his representatives will set that position to the Reds hierarchy alongside his conversation with Slot.

The former Feyenoord coach will not stand in the way of an exit, if Diaz confirms his desire to depart, and the club are prepared to be pragmatic over this summer being their best chance to secure a high transfer fee.
