Luis Arraez injury: Padres designated hitter carted off vs. Astros after collision with Mauricio Dubon

Padres designated hitter Luis Arraez had to be carted off the field in the first inning of Sunday night’s game against the Astros.

Up second in the game and with a man on first, Arraez laid down a drag bunt that first baseman Christian Walker went to field. Houston second basemen Mauricio Dubón then covered first base, and his momentum took him into Arraez, who was trying to beat the play out.

Arraez remained on the ground and needed assistance coming off the field, resulting in an 11-minute delay between pitches. He was ultimately carted off the field and taken back for further evaluation.

So far this season, Arraez has played in every game for San Diego. Here’s an update on Arraez after he had to leave the game.

Arraez’s head and neck area hit Dubon’s forearm, and the designated hitter immediately went down to the field. Medical personnel went out to check on Arraez in what would become an 11-minute delay.

Arraez had to be carted off the field, as he was unable to sit up himself. Once the cart came on the field, personnel stabilized Arraez’s neck and put him on a stretcher before carting him off.

After Arraez left the game, the Padres announced that he had been transported to Houston Methodist Hospital and was “currently stable, conscious, responsive, and able to move his extremities.”
