The list of players who the Los Angeles Chargers won’t have at their disposal for a bit was already long and concerning, but it now has a new name.
The Chargers have placed defensive lineman Da’Shawn Hand on injured reserve with a groin injury, meaning he will miss at least the next four games. It’s the latest blow for one of the most injured teams in the league.
Hand, who signed with the team as a free agent this offseason, is a starter on the defensive line. Second-year player Justin Eboigbe will likely be tabbed to take his place, but Naquan Jones should figure in as well.
To take his place on the 53-man roster, the Chargers brought up veteran offensive tackle Bobby Hart from the practice squad. The Chargers just signed Hart a little over one week ago. He has not played in a game since the 2022 season. However, with injuries ravaging the offensive line, desperate times apparently call for desperate measures.
The team also made two practice squad elevations ahead of the team’s Week 6 game against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. Running back Nyheim Hines and offensive lineman David Sharpe will also be available in case the team needs them.

Sharpe has played in 45 career games with six starts. With injuries to tackles Rashawn Slater, Joe Alt and Trey Pipkins, the team is having to dig deep to find players to step in and contribute and there is a chance Hart or Sharpe will see action in this game.

Hines has also not played in a game since 2022 but was brought back to the practice squad after being released following the preseason due to injuries to Najee Harris and Omarion Hampton. He will join Hassan Haskins and Kimani Vidal in filling out the team’s running back group on Sunday.
