Liverpool set to sign 6ft5in defender after long-term contract agreed

Liverpool have been easily the most active team in the transfer window this summer as they have already invested around £300m and are not done yet. 

The reigning Premier League champions have signed players like Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez this summer as they aim dominate the English top flight in the near future. 

Despite the signings, Liverpool lost out to Crystal Palace in the FA Community Shield on penalties and Arne Slot is now keen on signing a couple of centre-backs to address the situation. 

Therefore, according to reports via Nicolo Schira, Liverpool are pushing to sign Parma’s talented young defender Geovanni Leoni. 

As per reports, Liverpool have agreed personal terms with the 18-year-old and have decided to offer him a six year contract. 

The Reds are now negotiating with Parma and are hoping to get the deal done in the region of €35-40m ($47.3-54.2m) to lure the Italy U19 international out of Parma.

The youngster is keen to make the move to Merseyside as the Reds never needed covincing as the teenager is excited to join one of the biggest and most successful clubs in Europe. 

While there were reports suggesting that Liverpool may loan him back to Parma but Fabrizio Romano has refuted such claims highlighted Liverpool’s requirements in defence.

Who is Serie A prodigy Geovanni Leoni?

Liverpool reportedly are looking to get the deal done for Leoni as fast as possible as they believe his prices will soar with every passing season. 

Often called as the next big thing in defence in Italy, Leoni has the ingredients to replace Virgil van Dijk in the near future. 

For now, the 18-year-old will fill up the role left by Jarell Quansah and look to gain experience playing alongside top defenders. 

Standing at 1.95m (6ft5in), Leoni is dominant in the air and also uses his reach intelligently. He has a calm head on his shoulders as he likes to defend with authority and build with purpose. 

However if the move to Merseyside materializes, Leoni will need time to adjust to get used to the pace of the Premier League amidst new surroundings. 

He only featured in 17 matches last season for Parma, all of them came in the Serie A and while he is is highly rated in Italy, he is still learning the ropes at the top level.
