Liverpool are attempting to swoop in and steal Chelsea’s striker target, Hugo Ekitike. The Premier League title holders have made contact with Ekitike’s camp, according to Florian Plettenberg for Sky Sport Deutschland.
Chelsea looked to be leading the race for the Eintracht Frankfurt forward, but talks have stalled and the team failed to make a move for Ekitike before the Club World Cup transfer window closed.
Liverpool have reportedly held “concrete” talks with Ekitike’s representatives, which is a good sign for the Reds.
Why does Liverpool want Ekitike?
The Frankfurt forward had a sensational Bundesliga campaign, recording 15 goals and eight assists. Ekitike is only 22 years old, making him even more of a threat as he continues to grow into his game.
Liverpool could be losing out on Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, and Federico Chiesa, who could all leave before the summer is over. Arne Slot will be keen to add another forward to an already explosive attacking unit.

Ekitike could join Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, and Cody Gakpo as the best frontline in the Premier League. Liverpool scored 86 goals in the league this season, but with Ekitike in the mix, the Reds could reach an even higher tally next season.
With a busy schedule in the upcoming season, adding Ekitike would be a smart move for Slot, especially if Nunez, Jota, and Chiesa all depart the club.
