It’s been a foregone conclusion for quite some time, but if all goes to plan, Liverpool will be crowned 2024/25 Premier League champions.
Manchester City’s run of four consecutive top-flight titles has come to an end, as Pep Guardiola could not muster yet another defence without an injured Rodri. Arsenal gave it a run, but could not overcome the months-long loss of Bukayo Saka amidst a larger and impactful injury crisis.
That left Liverpool to take advantage of the struggles by those around them, and they did so with aplomb. Led by Mohamed Salah, who put together one of the greatest individual seasons in recent Premier League memory, the Reds left no doubts about their title worth.
The departure of Jurgen Klopp last summer could have left Liverpool in peril, but Arne Slot hit the ground running in his first season at the helm.
The Sporting News details the moments across the 2024/25 EPL season which stand out as the most significant across a nine-month charge that generated countless memories.

How can Liverpool win Premier League title?
Liverpool can mathematically secure the 2024/25 Premier League title as soon as Wednesday, April 23. They would confirm the crown before even taking the field next if Arsenal were to lose to Crystal Palace in their midweek meeting.
If the Gunners avoid defeat, then the Reds can win the title themselves in front of the home fans at Anfield by beating Tottenham on Sunday, April 27.
Key moments in Liverpool’s Premier League title chase
As Liverpool took over the top spot in the standings early in the season and never looked back, there was little drama through the second half of the campaign. Thus, the majority of the most competitively meaningful moments came through the latter stages of 2024.
Yet the second half of the season also provided excitement and emotion.

1. Man United 0-3 Liverpool (Sep. 1, 2024 — Matchweek 3)
The first big moment in Liverpool’s season came just three games in. The Reds had beaten Ipswich Town and Brentford, both 2-0, before an early matchup with nearby rivals Manchester United.
With judgements still to be made about new manager Arne Slot, Liverpool completed their first real announcement to the English top flight that they were gunning for the title, clobbering United 3-0 at Old Trafford thanks to a masterclass from Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian King assisted Luis Diaz twice in the first half before rounding out the scoreline himself inside an hour. Alisson’s important save on Joshua Zirkzee right before Salah’s third was key too, as the Reds ran out to a resounding win.
2. Arsenal 2-2 Liverpool (Oct. 27, 2024 — Matchweek 9)
With Arsenal sitting fourth in the table coming into their Matchweek 9 meeting with Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium, it wasn’t obvious at the time that the Gunners would be the top challengers to Liverpool’s title chase.
While the Reds would not emerge from London with three points in hand, this was the first moment where Liverpool showed genuine grit and determination, twice clawing back from a one-goal deficit to scrap for a point. It was far from a pretty game, as neither team eclipsed nine shots or 1.0 expected goals (xG), but the Reds proved they could stand their ground in the face of genuine opposition threat.
The result was also a microcosm of the season to come for Arsenal, as they were already without key defender William Saliba through suspension before losing his centre-back partner Gabriel to injury early in the second half.
3. Liverpool 2-1 Brighton (Nov. 2, 2024 — Matchweek 10)
Matchweek 10 was the moment Liverpool took command of top spot in the Premier League standings for good, and what a dramatic moment it was.
While the draw with Arsenal felt like a step forward, multiple dropped points in a row would have been disappointing. So when Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah scored three minutes apart midway through the second half to flip a 1-0 scoreline against Brighton at home, Anfield understandably erupted.
Liverpool didn’t need too many dramatic turnarounds this season, facing just 13 deficits all season, the third-fewest behind Arsenal (nine) and Nottingham Forest (11), but their 19 points from those situations are the best in the league on a per-chance total. This result proved they were here to fight, no matter the situation.
4. Liverpool 2-0 Man City (Dec. 1, 2024 — Matchweek 13)
Like the Manchester United result earlier in the season, by early December it wasn’t quite clear just yet how meek Manchester City’s title defence would ultimately be. Coming off a record four straight league championships, even their general presence near the top of the table would be considered a real threat.
So, just days after beating Real Madrid at home in the Champions League league phase, Liverpool made sure to put any hopes of City’s title push to bed. A 2-0 win for Arne Slot’s men at Anfield featured all the necessary ingredients of a title favourite, as the Reds saw Mohamed Salah star again while simultaneously smothering Pep Guardiola’s disjointed attack at the other end.
Liverpool peppered Stefan Ortega net with 18 shots worth an astounding 3.57 xG, while Erling Haaland fed on scraps at the other end as City put together a paltry eight efforts worth 0.84 xG. Salah fed a beautiful assist to Cody Gakpo before scoring from the penalty spot himself, bookending the emphatic win with starring moments. Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne’s late chances were the only real threatening moments for the visitors, but Caoimhin Kelleher did the necessary job.
5. Tottenham 3-6 Liverpool (Dec. 22, 2024 — Matchweek 17)
Obviously, a 6-3 win on the road at a well-established club like Tottenham would stand on its own as a delicious moment in a fantastic season, but this festive fixture proved vital for another reason too.
Coming into this match, Liverpool stood just one point above Chelsea. They held a game in hand, sure, but it was a pivotal moment in the title race — the Reds were under real threat at the top, and prevailed in emphatic fashion.
It was an incredibly nutty game from start to finish, as you’d expect from a nine-goal thriller, and Liverpool commanded nearly all of it. The Reds struck first through Luis Diaz in the 23rd minute, and went two goals to the good shortly past the half-hour. Liverpool never looked back from there, even as Tottenham found a few moments of their own. Mohamed Salah racked up four goal contributions in the match, while Diaz had a brace and Dominik Szoboszlai picked up a goal and an assist himself.
From this point on, no team got close to the Reds in the standings. The one-point lead stretched to four after the win, advancing even further shortly thereafter to seven points. It would get to nine points by the start of February, and Liverpool never looked back.
6. Everton 2-2 Liverpool (Feb. 12, 2025 — Matchweek 15*)
Every good league title charge comes with a bout of adversity. While Liverpool dealt with very little on the fitness front through the course of the campaign (most successful title runs also come with good injury luck), there were moments in the season that could have proven more damaging than they ultimately did.
Chief amongst those moments was the 2-2 draw with Everton at Goodison Park, a rearranged Merseyside derby and the last at this famous ground.
The Reds felt in command of the match after goals by Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah overturned Beto’s early opener, but James Tarkowski’s 98th-minute header send the Toffees into absolute jubilation. Their celebration kicked off a huge post-match brawl as Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure celebrated in front of the travelling Liverpool fans. Doucoure and Reds’ favourite Curtis Jones were set off, with Slot also shown a red card for continuing his protests after the match. It was sheer derby day bedlam.
Doubts could have crept in after this result — Liverpool held a seven-point lead over Arsenal with still 14 matches to go, and the Gunners pulled within four the following weekend before the Reds again took the field. They had a difficult schedule on the horizon, with games against Aston Villa, Man City, and Newcastle to come before the month concluded. Yet the Reds successfully bottled up the result and soldiered on, and never let any club get that close again the rest of the way.
7. Leicester City 0-1 Liverpool (Apr. 20, 2025 — Matchweek 33)
With the Reds firmly in command of the Premier League title race, as they had been for the last four months, there was one more emotional moment to savour down the stretch.
No one questioned Liverpool’s chances of winning the crown, holding a 13-point advantage at the top of the standings, but there were questions swirling about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future at the club. After Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk signed contract extensions, it left only the Liverpool lifer with his future in doubt amid swirling rumours of a Real Madrid free transfer upcoming.
So, when Alexander-Arnold returned from injury with a substitute appearance late in a drab affair against relegation-doomed Leicester City, the reception for Liverpool’s hometown hero was lukewarm at best. Yet when the 26-year-old cropped up with the game-winning goal on 76 minutes and wheeled around in utter jubilation, ripping off his shirt and letting the emotions flood forth, even the most ardent critic of Alexander-Arnold’s potential departure couldn’t help but acknowledge genuine joy.
The moment became the perfect merger of past triumphs, present promise of a trophy to come, and doubts about the future that left all involved with little choice but to feel appreciation for what they had achieved, knowing there are no guarantees for what the next few months hold.
