Liverpool keep two stars above Florian Wirtz as eye-watering contract is revealed

Liverpool are close to agreeing a club transfer record deal to sign Florian Wirtz.

Germany international Wirtz is expected to join the growing exodus from Bayer Leverkusen in the coming weeks as Xabi Alonso takes charge at Real Madrid.

Jeremie Frimpong is also in line to join Arne Slot’s Premier League champions as the Dutch coach looks to bolster his squad for the 2025/26 season.

Bayern Munich stepped out of the transfer race for Wirtz with club officials convinced he prefers a switch to Liverpool as his next career move.

Wirtz has been in talks with Liverpool since mid-May with the 22-year-old reportedly already looking for a new house on Merseyside.

However, finances will dictate the final offer put forward to the attacking midfielder, and Liverpool will not break their current wage structure to bring him to Anfield.

Florian Wirtz’s Liverpool contract, salary, transfer fee

Liverpool’s £72m [$98m] deal for Darwin Nunez from Benfica is their current transfer record but a deal for Wirtz will smash that this summer.

Leverkusen are confident of securing £100m [$135m] as part of an upfront fee with a further £25m [$34m] in performance-related add-ons split across his contract.

Liverpool are ready to offer Wirtz a ‘long-term’ deal which is rumoured to be for at least five years until 2030.

However, as per reports from Sky Sports, his salary will not be in excess of Liverpool’s current top earners.

The report claims his salary will be boosted to around £16.8m [$22.75m] per year which averages at £320,000 [$433,000] a week.

As per football salary experts Capology, that puts him below club captain Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, who both signed extensions until 2027 in April.

Securing Van Dijk and Salah was a priority for Slot with the duo also given slight increases in their renewals.

Van Dijk’s deal tallies at £18.2m [$24.6m] per year – around £350,000 [$475,000] a week – with Salah’s new agreement priced up at £20.8m [$28m] annually and £400,000 [$542,000] a week.
