Liverpool ‘green-lit’ to complete first signing as Premier League champions

Liverpool fans will keep the party going in the coming weeks ahead of their Premier League trophy parade on May 26.

Arne Slot’s side stormed over the title line on April 27 as they fought back to dismantle Tottenham with a 5-1 Anfield win.

On a sun-soaked afternoon on Merseyside, Liverpool secured their second EPL crown in five years, and the first in front of a packed-out Anfield after winning the 2020 title during Covid-19.

Slot thanked his predecessor Jurgen Klopp for laying the foundations in his squad as the Dutchman became the fifth manager to win a Premier League trophy in their first season.

The final weeks of the campaign will be a procession for Slot with four games still to play next month.

As part of the celebrations Liverpool will be given a traditional champions guard of honour in their EPL trip to Chelsea on May 4.

However, as the dust settles on the season, Slot is already looking ahead to the 2025/26 campaign, and new faces arriving at Anfield.

Slot previously hinted at the summer transfer window being a quiet – as he is happy with the majority of his current squad – with contract extensions already secured for captain Virgil van Dijk and talisman Mohamed Salah.

As per reports from the Daily Mirror, Slot has been given the green light from the club’s ownership to pursue a move for Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez.

Slot has been linked with the Hungary international since the start of 2025, amid concerns over Andy Robertson’s longevity at left-back, and the Cherries are already planning for life without him.

The report indicates Andoni Iraola is pragmatic over his chances to retain the 21-year-old with Julio Soler lined up to replace him next season.

That will ease Liverpool’s push for Kerkez, but Bournemouth could demand in the region of £30m [$40m] as a transfer fee, with Kerkez under contract at the Vitality Stadium until 2028.

Just two league goals this season is not the most eye-catching statistic for Kerkez, but his energetic bursts forward from defence have drawn comparisons to Robertson – and he is third in the EPL for crosses into the opposition penalty area so far in 2024/25 with 22.
