Liverpool secured a 4-2 win against Bournemouth in their opening game of the 2025/26 Premier League on August 16 at Anfield.
After starting off their season with a victory, the reigning champions will be hoping to continue their stride in their upcoming league match against Newcastle United on August 25, at St. James’ Park.
However, there’s some bad news for Liverpool ahead of the game as their summer signing, Jeremie Frimpong, has been sidelined for a while after sustaining an injury.
Frimpong joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in May on a five-year contract and made his Premier League debut last week for the Reds, playing for a total of 60 minutes.
The Dutchman limped off the pitch after facing a hamstring issue and was replaced by Wataru Endo on the hour mark.
Now, Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has confirmed that Frimpong has sustained a hamstring injury and has been ruled out of action until after the international break.

What did Liverpool boss Arne Slot say about Jeremie Frimpong’s injury?
Frimpong’s substitution against Bournemouth was questioned by many, who related the move by Slot as a reflection of the 24-year-old’s efforts on the pitch.
While speaking in the pre-match press conference, Slot shared an update on the extent of Frimpong’s injury and said,
“The medical team was completely right about Jeremie to tell me that I had to take him off, because he is out until the end of the international break and that happened in the game,” as per the club’s official website.
“I already said immediately after the game that it had nothing to do with how he played, but we felt he had an issue with his hamstring. And with ‘we’ I don’t mean me, but the medical staff. And they were completely right. So, a good call to take him off, otherwise he would have maybe been out for longer. And we expect to have him back after the international break.”
Along with the league game against Newcastle, Frimpong is also expected to miss Liverpool’s match against Arsenal on August 31 at Anfield.
Frimpong is expected to return to action in Liverpool’s fourth Premier League match of the season against Burnley on September 14, at Turf Moor.
