Lions turn heads with Wednesday visit amid Alex Anzalone contract drama

The Detroit Lions made an interesting decision on Wednesday when the team brought in linebacker Kyzir White for a visitm according to the league’s transactions wire.

Earlier this week, Alex Anzalone made it quite clear he’s unhappy with his contract and is hoping to get that resolved before the season starts.

The good news is, it doesn’t appear he’s going to hold out into the season. That said, the visit with White is intriguing, to say the least.

White is a seven-year starter in the NFL and has played for the Los Angeles Chargers, Philadelphia Eagles and Arizona Cardinals. Knowing that, it’s hard to imagine he’d consider joining a Lions team where he’d be LB4.

Assuming Anzalone isn’t going anywhere, Detroit already has three starting-caliber linebackers on the roster when you also include Jack Campbell and Derrick Barnes.

This has left many fans to wonder if the Lions are preparing for life without Anzalone if the two sides can’t get something done. It’s hard to fathom the Lions trading an important player like Anzalone, but never say never in the NFL.

Some have also wondered if the Lions are trying to use this to gain some leverage on Anzalone.

“Not good for (Anzalone),” one Lions fan said.

“(The Lions) don’t seem to have a big need at LB,” another fan pointed out. “With Anzalone unhappy with his contract, I wonder if they’re considering trading him.”

“A little Alex Anzalone negotiations leverage,” wrote a different Lions fan.

Again, we ultimately believe the Lions and Anzalone will get something done, but a visit with a starting linebacker for Detroit definitely raises some eyebrows.
